CERTIFIED DOULA SERVICES
"My doula Laurie was a combo best friend / mom / sister
figure whose voice of experience and calm support reminded
me constantly that I was not for one moment truly alone and
that I absolutely would get through this!" –Wendy Browning
| What is a doula |
Doulas work with clients during pregnancy,
birth and postpartum. A doula provides continuous support,
information and education to an expectant family during
birth. Doulas support not only the mother but also the
birth partner. Her experience and knowledge of the birth
process as an event to look forward to brings awareness and
comfort to the laboring mother and her partner. This idea
sounds appealing to many and there is sound scientific data
which supports the beneficial use of a doula. Studies show:
• A decrease in cesarean births
• A decrease in the use of pain medication
• A decrease in the use of pitocin
• A decrease in the use of forceps
• A decrease in the length of labor
| Doula Services Include |
Two prenatal meetings, phone and email support during
pregnancy, continuous labor support, assistance with
breastfeeding immediately after birth, ongoing postpartum
support. Cost is $895 with 1/2 due at the time services are
retained and the remainder due by the 37th week of
pregnancy.
It is important for women to 'click' with their doula and
to interview different doulas, for more doula information
please see www.sierradoulas.com
To cover the cost of having a doula some women ask for
doula services for their baby showers or from family
members. Mothers and grandmothers feel especially good
about contributing to this service as they want to know
their daughter/granddaughter will have continuous care by a
trained professional.
