Frequently Asked Questions
Q:
I'm pregnant with my second child and want to take a
refresher course but don't feel I need to take a full 6
week class again, do you think this is a good idea?
A:
Absolutely. Some expectant parents do take a 6 week class
with each pregnancy which I think is great if they feel
like it is useful. For others who just want to go over some
specifics it is a good idea to schedule some time to go
over specifically what you want to learn.
Q:
Does my partner need to come to the prenatal breastfeeding
class with me?
A:
We suggest that your support person does attend. You may
bring your husband, mother, or even best friend with you.
Studies show that when the people around the breastfeeding
mother are involved in the education success rates
drastically increase.
Q:
I really want to have a doula, but my husband doesn't think
we need one, how do talk to him about this?
A:
The doula can actually show your husband how to support you
and bring you closer together. The doula allows for the
partner to participate at his own comfort level. While the
doula probably knows more than your husband about birth,
hospitals and protocol, your husband knows more about you
and your personality. The combined contribution of the
doula and your husband create a competent and caring birth
team. Have your husband meet with the doula or call to
discuss his concerns.
